Manchester United: Superstar open to move. Go get him Louis – report
Manchester United have been put on alert after Memphis Depay announced that it was possible that he could leave his current side this summer. The young winger confirmed that he would have the final say on his future, giving hope that a deal with The Premier League side could be possible.
While the winger does not appear to be attempting to push a transfer through, he has made it clear that he would consider moves to top European sides. The Mirror quotes the player as stating:
“I have done my time at PSV but if nice clubs from big leagues ask, I will think about it. There is lots of interest but it is definitely an option to stay.”
Although Manchester United will not be competing in Europe, they are still considered one of the biggest clubs in the world. The lure of playing in The Premier League for such a prestigious club could tempt the player to leave the Dutch side for pastures new.
Manchester United could have a significant advantage over other clubs in view of the fact that he would be working under Louis van Gaal, a manager he already has experience with from being part of the Netherlands national squad. This relationship with the manager could swing the decision in favour of moving to Old Trafford over other potential deals.
The 20-year-old grabbed the attention of football fans and clubs alike over the summer with his notable performances during the 2014 World Cup. He went on to help his national side to third place in the tournament and was nominated for the Best Young Player award.
His club career has been equally impressive. Since breaking into the PSV Eindhoven squad in 2011 he has played over 80 games in all competitions and scored 22 goals.
With his versatility, being able to play as a winger, wing-back or full-back, and experience of playing under Van Gaal, Depay could well prove to be a perfect match for Manchester United.
