Bad deal?

Chelsea are rumoured to be buying again even though Special Face has said he’s not in the market.

And reports coming out of Spain this week are suggesting a very curious deal.

Marca reported:

Chelsea forward André Schürrle could be the missing piece of Atlético de Madrid’s brand-new attacking puzzle, potentially as part of a deal taking long-term Blues target Miranda the other way.

We can understand why Chelsea would want Miranda. He offers the sort of athleticism that the back line, although still solid, arguably lacks.

But we would find it very strange if Chelsea used Andre Schurrle as a makeweight. He didn’t exactly have a sensational season at Chelsea last year and can look a bit languid in his play – he’s certainly not jet-heeled like Hazard.

But he did perform well when given the chance at Chelsea and we were most impressed with him at The World Cup. Even though he wasn’t regular starter in Brazil, he made a vital contribution to the German triumph and was incredibly good coming off the bench and getting straight into the tempo and pulse of matches.

Schurrle may not be electric from a standing start but, like the German team in general, he’s a frighteningly efficient player with great accuracy and shooting ability. He seldom wastes possession or a chance and we had expected this to be his breakthrough year at Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has very strong opinions about the players that he wants in his squad. He’s not scared to cull a top star, like Mata, if he doesn’t fit the Mourinho template. He may feel the same way about Schurrle.

But soccersweep would be inclined to give him a chance at Chelsea as he had such a good World Cup and his confidence will be sky high after the win in Brazil.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: keep or get rid?
