Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has already intimated that, while he gave his blessing for the signings of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, they weren’t chosen initially by him. Manchester United had these deal in the pipeline regardless of who came in as coach.
And while it is obviously wise for him to assess his squad before he delves into the market himself it’s doing nothing for the frayed nerves of the Manchester United faithful who are hoping for much more player investment this summer.
We think that the Manchester United manager has been impressed and positively surprised by the quality that he has seen in the squad. But he will almost certainly buy another few players to embellish his side for the coming campaign.
There has been a huge amount of speculation about who will come in but we think that, at this point, these are the three most likely signings – there may be more but these three are vital.
This remains Manchester United’s prime objective of the summer as far as we can see. They are desperate for someone to add personality, drive and power to the midfield. Herrera will add so much creativity but they need a combative man like Vidal to strengthen the engine room. Manchester United must push the boat out for this guy.
Manchester United’s plan A would probably include Mats Hummels. In truth Manchester United probably need two more centre halfs. But Vermaelen seems like the most gettable solution right now. He’s solid, dependable and scores the odd goal. Hopefully over his injury nightmare.
Apart from the very inexperienced Reece James, Manchester United have little to no cover for Luke Shaw. Blind can offer that but also do a job in the midfield. He’d be a classy signing and one that makes a lot of sense to Manchester United.
