Arsenal: The Next Major Signing?

So the dust is beginning to settle on another excellent signing for Arsenal in what is turning out to be a really good summer in the transfer market.

Calum Chambers will improve year-on-year and hopefully become one of the most important members of the team in the future.

But with another month to go before the window closes attention will now turn to who Arsenal will sign next.

They obviously still need a holding midfielder but reports this week have suggested that they may well go for yet another attacking midfielder.

The Metro reports on Tuesday that another big deal could be in the offing.

Arsenal are pushing ahead with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk star Douglas Costa – and will let Joel Campbell join AC Milan if a deal can be agreed.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with Costa in the last few days with the Brazilian pushing to leave Shakhtar this summer due to political issues in Ukraine.

Costa was hyped as a future world star just a few years back and Manchester United were strongly and persistently linked with his signature. But he moved instead to Donetsk and his stock has fallen somewhat over the last couple of years.

At 23 years of age he still hasn’t got a full international cap for Brazil despite having lots of appearances in the youth teams.

But he remains a talented, tricky and explosive attacking midfielder who loves to drive forward with the ball at his feet and who can play in various positions. He also has a real eye for goal.

The pertinent question is whether Arsenal need another attacking midfielder.

He would be an exciting acquisition and Arsenal fans probably wouldn’t turn their noses up at the signing. Costa has great mobility and can play on the wings or as a number 10.

But the main problem area remains the holding midfield role at Arsenal and we believe that the club should be concentrating all of their efforts in sorting this out first.

Let’s see Costa in action. Arsenal fans: entertained?

I believe Wenger will surprise the fans in signing a holding midfielder before the window closes.

as it stands we hasve 26 players born 1992. That is one too many. But I think it says it all that vermaelen and jenkinson have not travelled to Austria, when they should have. The other 7 (ospina, mertesacker, ozil, sanchez, podolski, ryo, gnabry and Walcott) that haven’t travelled all have valid reasons for not being there. But those 2 do not. It is my belief they will be the first to depart, vermaelen permanently and jenks on loan. That will free up one place for another signing and I think that will be a dm. If a DM is signed then I think either coquelin or arteta will be allowed to leave, most likely coquelin. If one of those leave it again frees up a place and I believe we will then sign another forward. If that happens ryo will go which again frees up another place, that is how things will go now, one out one in.
