Great Business: Arsenal close to another superb deal – report

Happy days

Arsenal’s transfer business hasn’t always been greeted with unanimous applause. But we have to say that this one looks like a brilliant singing for Arsene Wenger.

Having just signed Mathieu Debuchy Arsenal’s immediate needs at right back are covered. But news today suggests that the long-term has also been catered for in that position as Arsenal close in on the brilliant Southampton youngster Calum Chambers.

He’s only played 23 times at senior level but Arsenal are apparently prepared to pay £12m for the lad.

It makes sense. At 19 he can play for Arsenal for nigh on 15 years. If he doesn’t make the grade then Arsenal can sell him for what is likely to be a minimal loss.

This move puts further question marks over the Arsenal future of Carl Jenkinson, who looked to have a bright future at the club but has not seen too much game time of late. You would have to assume that he has kicked his last ball for Arsenal – at least or a while.

The Daily Mail says:

Arsenal are closing in on a £12million deal for Southampton right-back Calum Chambers.
The highly-rated 19-year-old has only made 23 first team appearances for Southampton but Arsenal have seen enough to recognise his potential.

At just 19 Chambers will be expected to play second fiddle to Debuchy. But a player of this standard and drive will not be there to simply make up the numbers. He’ll get a decent amount of game time this season and push the Frenchman all the way for a first team spot – such is the quality of the lad.

Arsenal fans: happy that this deal looks close?

You can’t build a team without a defence. He (AW) inherited an impenetrable back four and since his tenure he has let it become a weak link. Maybe this is a sign of Le Professor’s imminent departure.

It pisses me off when people say Arsene Wenger “inherited” the back four. What about the Invincibles back four? Lauren/Toure/ Campbell/ Cole and Lehman in goal; he didn’t fucking inherite them did he.

All we hear about is defenders and right backs – are we not going to get a good CF – Giroud does not belong in an Arsenal shirt. Must improve on this mediocrity.

All u Wenger critics, Man U had one of the most potent attack in premier league & didn’t qualify for Europa, Spuds had better attack & defence than us still could not get pass us, Cheksi had world class strikers & squad too still no trophy to show for it. Leave Wenger alone to do his job. U don’t value what u have till u lose it.

Can all you critics tell me how we became the invincibles it seems so easy to go on about the old back four but yet we have won titles and cups without them.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but at least have real grounds for your argument,
