Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger clearly didn’t spend Friday night in the pub. He was far too busy doing transfer deals for the club.
We have reported today on the move for Calum Chambers. It’s a really sad star of affairs for Southampton, who keep losing their star players, but great news for Arsenal who are getting a real star in the making.
But none of these signings have yet addressed Arsenal’s biggest problem – the midfield.
Of course they have lots of great midfielders but they lack balance. Because they don’t have a holding player of real top quality, grit and determination. Not a regularly fit one anyway (nod to Diaby).
But BBC journalist Ben Smith has tweeted that Arsenal are looking for a quick double raid on Southampton to bring Morgan Schneiderlin to the club too.
The Guardian states, however, that the player will cost megabucks:
Southampton will signal their determination to hold on to Morgan Schneiderlin by telling his suitors, who are headed by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, that he would cost them in excess of the £27m that Manchester United paid for Luke Shaw.
We would love to see Sami Khedira at the club next season and this deal doesn’t necessarily mean that the German won’t come. But at least if they get the Frenchman they will have begun to sort out that problem area – they will have a disciplined pass master who can help Arsenal to keep their shape and solidity while the others fly forward. At 24 he also has time to improve and find a big place in the heart of the Arsenal side.
This, in turn, may make Arsenal harder for the elite teams to beat. Because while Arsenal tend to batter the minnows, they have struggled against he big boys for too long.
So, while this may not be the Hollywood signing that many crave for the engine room it would represent a very good start.
Let’s see Schneiderlin in action. Arsenal fans: good potential buy?

Arsenal have too many creative md players. We need someone
like a Veira clone.Arteta ,a creative player, was asked to doe the destroyer job and was not as successful as his creative role.
Btw,Arsenal need guys who can run at defenders rather than passing the
ball around. Imho, this passing ame gives defenders time to regroup and
stifle the gunners attack. That was what the top 3 teams did to Arsenal.
