Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to sign Mario Balotelli if Luis Suarez moves away from Anfield.
Liverpool could be set for a shock move for Arsenal target Mario Balotelli if Luis Suarez completes a switch to Barcelona, according to reports in Italy.
Balotelli has been linked with a move away from Italian club AC Milan for several weeks. The frontman has been most closely linked with Arsenal during the summer but Arsene Wenger moved to cool speculation linking his side with the Italian last week.
The striker, who has regularly grabbed headlines with a number of controversial incidents during his career, joined AC Milan from Manchester City in 2013.
Despite scoring 26 league goals in 43 games, the 28 year old is reportedly unsettled and wants a move back to England, possibly to get away from racist chanting in Serie A.
With Barcelona reportedly opening talks to bring Suarez to Spain, Liverpool are left facing the new season without their star player who scored 31 goals in The Premier League last season.
While they do have another clinical finisher in the form of Daniel Sturridge, it is likely that they will want to add additional forwards to their squad – especially considering that they will be competing in The Champions League next season.
Initially, Liverpool were expected to want Chile wide man Alexis Sanchez in part exchange as part of any deal for Suarez. Reports in The Daily Mail today though suggest that the Barcelona player would prefer to move to Arsenal.
This would still leave Liverpool short in attack, something which Balotelli could rectify.
The Merseyside club have been busy in the transfer window so far. It emerged earlier in the week that they had signed Adam Lallana from Southampton for a fee of £25 million. The deal followed the signings of Rickie Lambert and Emre Can.
