Arsenal could do with adding players in several positions this summer but they would do very well to sign a defensive midfielder and a striker of top quality.
The defensive midfield department has been a problem for Arsenal for several years.
While the likes of Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky have done a decent job there when asked we feel that the ideal Arsenal player for the role, About Diaby, is too frequently injured. Hopefully he will eventually get a run in the team but Arsenal need to bring in another.
They need to sign a really commanding central midfield presence who can keep the team solid while others bomb on.
Latest reports suggest that Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to the brilliant Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal – known as Il Guerriero (“The Warrior”) by the Italian press.
The Metro goes a star as to suggest that a £44 million bid could be on for player:
Arsenal are reportedly preparing a £44m offer for Juventus powerhouse Arturo Vidal as Arsene Wenger looks to beef up his midfield options.
The Gunners are already resigning themselves to starting the new season without the injured Abou Diaby, while Mikel Arteta could depart for Athletic Bilbao.
And Arsene Wenger has stoked the fire by saying:
‘Vidal is one of the best midfielders in the world,’ he said.
‘He has everything. Incredible stamina, perfect timing. He’s a marathon athlete who plays football.’
With 28 goals in 95 league games for Juventus you might assume that this guy is more of an attacking force.
But he’s part of that dieing breed of all-round box to box action men. He’s ferocious in the tackle, happy to sit in front of the defence when the team is without the ball, but also scores brilliant goals. So perhaps he’s worth the mooted price tag.
Arsenal need to start spending some of their cash reserves if they want to compete and, there are no two ways about it, this guy would be an excellent addition.
Let’s have a look at Vidal in action. Arsenal fans: worth 44 million squid?

He’s brilliant, but he plays very similarly to Ramsey. Wouldn’t say no but I don’t see him as a defensive midfielder any more. I know he can play that way but it’s as much of a waste of his talent as playing Aaron in the DM position. Would make the decision not to re-sign Cesc look even stranger because he would slot into our side much more easily than Vidal imo, unless we really do want him to play a holding role, which isn’t what he does currently.

Imagine Vidal and Ramsey interchanging on the pitch!
