Latest reports suggest that Manchester United are set to announce a deal for Ander Herrera of Athletic Bilbao.
The 24-year-old who played 35 league games for his club last season, scoring two goals, has been a long-term target of Manchester United.
But most people remember the farcical circumstances surrounding Manchester United’s attempts to sign the player last summer when the deal eventually fell through. Most believed that that would put an end to any transfer.
The trail has since gone quiet and it was expected that Manchester United would pursue other targets. But new United manager Louis van Gaal is apparently impressed enough to make a quick move for the player and a £28.7 million deal is reportedly on the table.
The media is notorious for jumping the gun on these sorts of deals and we take the report with a pinch of salt at this point. But The Metro reckons that the deal could be completed as early as this evening.
Manchester United ‘set to announce £28.7m Ander Herrera transfer’
Herrera is understood to have agreed a four-year contract at Old Trafford worth a total of £9.2m.
Herrera had a relatively quiet season for his club and didn’t make the cut for The World Cup squad this summer. But he is still seen as a player with massive potential and Manchester United could well use his creative services in that gaping hole in the midfield.
We shall keep you updated on events throughout the day. Meantime let’s take a look at him in action. Manchester United fans: is this the guy to reignite the midfield?
