It’s anyone’s guess how Manchester United will line up at the start of next season but we feel quite certain is that new manager Louis van Gaal will add a major centre back.
We do believe that there is a lot of quality in the defensive department at Manchester United but perhaps the average age is a little bit low for the liking of the Dutchman.
As you will know over the last two days there have been strong links between Manchester United and Thomas Vermaelen.
The latest report is that he wants to move to Manchester United and has apparently begged his club to let him go.
While this may be seen as a bad move by Arsenal Arsene Wenger only has himself to blame if the player does want to leave the club.
Instead of rotating the centre backs he has stuck with Mertesacker and Koscielny for the vast majority of the games, and certainly the important ones, over the last season.
At 28 the Belgian does not want to be sitting on the bench for too much longer.
He was a sensational player for The Gunners before injuries took their toll – some might even afford the club captain ‘legend’ status – but many think that he still merits a place in the first team.
But he’s not getting enough games and it’s understandable that he would want to play for Manchester United.
The Metro reports that the player is gagging for a move:
Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has reportedly begged the club to let him move to rivals Manchester United this summer.
Vermaelen, who is entering the final year of his Gunners deal, has emerged as a surprise target for new United boss Louis van Gaal.
Manchester United fans may see this as a bit of an unspectacular signing for the club. There may be better younger and more high profile targets but if Vermaelen can rediscover the dominant and goalscoring form that he showed when he first joined the London club, Manchester United fans will be laughing all the way to a great finish next season.
Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: keen? And Arsenal fans: bad move for the club?
