So what do we think about this then Manchester United fans? Sebastian Schweinsteiger has again been linked to the club and the question on the lips of many a fan is whether this is a move of desperation. The Daily Mail reports that the player fancies a move:
Sportsmail revealed United’s interest last month and the 29-year-old Schweinsteiger is thought to be keen on joining his former boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
It’s hard to argue with the quality of the player himself. He has scored some 40 goals for Bayern Munchen and 23 for the German national side after getting 100 caps under his belt.
He is, in short, at totemic character in German football and still a very good player.
But at the age of 29 this guy would cost an awful lot of money to bring to Manchester United and have little to no sell-on value.
Three years is of course a long time in football but that is how long we can expect to see Schweinsteiger playing top level football for Manchester United.
To us it smacks of short termism on the part of Manchester United. Whereas Fergie was building an empire and always planning for the long term we can’t imagine Lous van Gaal staying at the club for more than three years. He will surely pass the reins on to Ryan Giggs after his initial contract runs out.
But Manchester United fans don’t want the club to be left in the same state of disrepair in a few years time. Any manager worth his salt will build for the future regardless of the length of his stay. That is one of the most important tasks of any manager as far as we are concerned.
Let’s see the marvellous man in action anyway. Manchester United fans: smart signing to get United back to the top or more wasted cash?
