Manchester City: Yet more major business close to completion – report

It’s oh so easy for City

Manchester City fans should take time out appreciate the fact that they are more decisive in the market than most other clubs.

Chelsea also regularly seem to get deals done before you have even heard the rumours about a player. But Manchester City’s neighbours Manchester United, and most others, tend to drag their heels with much longer negotiation periods before a deal gets done.

Perhaps it comes down to simple economics. Manchester City don’t muck about with a couple of million pounds here or there. When they really want a player they usually seem to stump up what the selling club wants with minimum fuss. What a bonus for the fans!

Accordingly they seem to have two more deals virtually in the bag. The Guardian reports:

Manchester City expect to announce Fernando’s £16m signing this week
• Porto midfielder is likely to be followed by Bacary Sagna
• City want centre-back but Eliaquim Mangala needs persuading

Sagna seems to have plumped for Manchester City after deciding that he’s definitely leaving Arsenal this summer. It’s impossible to imagine that money didn’t play a big part in his decision. But Sagna is perhaps also more likely to win a trophy at Manchester City.

Fernando has being tracked by Manchester City for some time now. The Porto midfielder looks like another highly skilful and mobile midfielder – understated yet brilliant.

If Manchester City do manage to persuade Mangala to join the club then it’s surely all bets off as to The Premier League champions for next season. Because a partnership of Mangala and Kompany may not let a goal in all season! It’s a frighteningly good centre back pairing.

So Manchester City could complete the lion’s share of their business before The World Cup and have all the new recruits on board in time for pre-season (World Cup permitting).

Let’s take a look at Fernando in action. Manchester City: top quality additions?

Mangala is not coming. We don’t need Sagna but on a free its ok to take him and Fernando is average so ……..so far not so good in terms of better players but at least the squad is improved and as injuries almost cost us the league last season that has to be welcomed. We still haven’t filled that giant hole in the middle of our defence yet though, until we do we are vunerable.

Sagna is OK, but (IMO) not as good as Leeds Sam Byram and 10 years older!
