Barcelona are looking to bring PSG defender Marquinhos to Spain according to The Guardian. The 20 year has impressed pundits over the last two years and is seen as a star of the future by many.
The youngster was a regular in the PSG side last season making 32 appearances in total in all competitions, helping them with Ligue 1 and the Coupe de la Ligue.
He joined the Paris giants from Roma last summer for a fee of around €31 million from Roma. He spent his youth career in his native country playing for Corinthians.
The player has confirmed that there appears to be some interest in him from Barcelona. But he is keeping his feet on the ground and waiting to see what his club want to do, telling TV3:
“Barcelona are a great team. I’m going to wait and see what PSG will decide. This interest proves to me that I’ve made some good performances, but I have yet to prove many things.”
Despite his regular inclusion in the PSG squad and the large fee paid for him, the club may be willing to sell him. The imminent arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea means the Paris side may have to offset some of that cost to obey Financial Fair Play Rules.
A move to Barcelona would suit both club and player. With the arrival of new manager Luis Enrique at the Catalan club established players may not be guaranteed their place in the starting eleven. The club’s belief in developing talent would also likely see Marquinhos more game time than at other big club.
With the retirement of Puyol the Spanish club will be desperate to bring in at least on centre back, as they have largely had to make do with quick fixes in defence over the past season.
