Many Arsenal fans would like the club to add another holding midfielder to the team during the summer months.
Abuo Diaby always looked like a brilliant player for the role but his persistent injuries mean that Arsenal need a contingency plan long term.
We do think that they should go for a player in his early to mid 20s – spend a bit of cash and get someone in for a good five or six years.
But reports have resurfaced which suggest that Gareth Barry could be a target for the Gunners again this summer:
Everton are desperate to sign Gareth Barry on a permanent deal. Arsenal and West Ham United have other ideas.
Barry has had a sensational season at Everton. The year-long loan that The Toffees brokered has come to an end but many believe that Barry will now make his stay at Goodison permanent.
But if Arsenal join the queue for his signature things could change dramatically.
Although now 33 years of age Barry still seems at the very top of his game. His passing and reading of situations has never been better.
He could definitely do a job for Arsenal for a season and who is to say he might not add the requisite solidity and mettle when Arsenal’s backs are against the wall? If Arsenal were to make a bid Barry would surely be tempted by Champions League football.
That said, we would still like to see a younger, more mobile addition – a long-term investment for Arsenal.
Let’s see Barry in action. Arsenal fans: keen?
