After plucking Philippe Coutinho from Internazionale, in a deal which proved crucial to Liverpool’s title challenge this season, you might say that Brendan Rodgers has an acute eye for potential.
He won’t be thinking too much about the summer at this exact moment as Chelsea are in town this weekend in what will surely be the title decider.
Even a draw and Liverpool will be within touching distance of their first championship in a quarter of a century. But, such is their form and apparent lack of fear right now that we think they should win the game at a rocking Anfield – happy days then.
But, when the dust settles, the real work begins for Liverpool. Because Brendan Rodgers will be tasked with turning one season wonders into serial winners and creating a dynasty to sate the hunger of Liverpool fans starved of title success for so long.
One youngster who has been linked of late is Kuki Zalazar of Malaga. He’s only weeny – 16 in June to be precise. So not really one for the immediate future. But Talksport picks up on a story from Spain that Liverpool are in for the striking starlet this summer.
Liverpool are in pursuit of Spanish wonderkid Kuki Zalazar, reports Marca.
Malaga will try to persuade him to stay at the club with the promise of reserve-team football and a contact with the first team the following season.
However, Liverpool also want him and it is believed the Reds’ greater financial firepower and more impressive academy facilities could tempt him to Merseyside instead.
Realistically, he won’t get a look in to Liverpool’s first team for a couple of years but we believe that England is an excellent finishing school for foreign youngsters who regularly have technical excellence but can become more robust players with the English experience – just look at Cristiano Ronaldo. Would he have been quite as good without his time in England?
