Wow! It just keeps getting better for Liverpool. Their steady climb up the league this season has been highly reminiscent of a champion runner who nestles in behind the frontrunners. They have been in the slipstream of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City for months, without allowing the gap to widen too much.

And now, as the others begin to tire or tumble, Liverpool have picked the perfect moment to make a sprint for the line. For the Liverpool fans who have suffered title misery for almost a quarter of a century this situation is scarcely believable. With just 6 games to go Liverpool have gone from playing the best football to looking like the most convincing Premier League champions.

Not even the most confident Liverpool fan will be counting his blessings just yet but the team is playing such entertaining football that few would begrudge them their title if they did go on to clinch it.

If it doesn’t happen this year it will go down to a sluggish start and an, at times, porous defence. Liverpool probably need to add a couple of defenders to stop conceding quite so many. That will be a priority for the summer and the media have already got a whiff of who Liverpool might fancy. The Guardian reports:

German newspaper Bild reports that Premier League leaders Liverpool quite like the look of the Bayern Munich defender Jérôme Boateng

Liverpool are also being linked with a move for the Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren, having apparently tried and failed to buy the Croatian international from the French side Lyon last June.

Boateng is a mon mountain. The 6ft 4in Germany international had an unsuccessful stint at Manchester City before heading home to Bayern. As for Lovren, we have seen him have a few slightly dodgy games of late but Manchester United are also said to be interested and the 24 year old has had a highly impressive season at Southampton. He’s a mobile defender with good feet.

Let’s have a look at them both in action
