Arsene Wenger must dream about number tens in his sleep. Because barely a week goes by without the Arsenal manager being linked to another one.
It’s understandable that he would use the Barcelona style as his template but he seems to have so many attacking midfielders already that you would imagine he would look at other areas of his team in his attempts at improvement. Regardless, areas of the media today report that Arsenal are keen on yet another central creative.
The Daily Mail weighs in with:
Arsenal are monitoring Hamburg attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.
The 20-year-old, who has been likened to Mesut Ozil, has earned rave reviews in Germany following a number of impressive displays.
Despite his young age he’s already played for a decent Turkish national side after representing them at every youth level. If his early career is anything to go by this guy is going to be a really top goal scoring midfielder. Even though he is still learning his trade, his scoring stats are highly impressive even for a forward – let alone a midfielder – 14 in 31 league games for Karlsruher, where he started his career and then returned on loan, and 8 in 24 starts for his current club Hamburg.
You would have to say that the lad looks like Arsenal quality. But quite where they would fit him into the side remains a total mystery to us. Unless, of course, Mesut decides to call time on his Arsenal career.
Anyway, speculation aside, let’s see the lad in action. Arsenal fans – do you really need more attacking midfielders?
