Everywhere you look there is speculation about Manchester United’s potential new recruits. Some reckon that no area of the park is safe from changes. And while many believe that Manchester United need to focus on recruiting midfielders the defence is also looking somewhat weary.
To that end three defenders have been linked in the latest news cycle. The Guardian reckons that Manchester United will make a summer bid for the brilliant Stoke stopper Asmir Begovic.
They are also looking at replacing Anders Lindegaard with Asmir Begovic, as the uselessness of their reserve keeper is precisely the reason they find themselves in such a pickle.
Now, we can believe that Manchester United would be interested in the player. Make no mistake that this is one of the best keepers in the world. But Manchester United already have an elite keeper and Begovic would surely not want to sit on the bench at Old Trafford – he’s simply too good not to be playing every week.
Some will be concerned that this rumour would suggest that David De Gea may be off. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona will be looking for a new keeper in the next year or so and the young Spaniard most certainly fits the bill.
The same report suggests that Manchester united are also tracking two defenders.
They remain keen on Mehdi Benatia, the excellent Roma centre-back, and have also watched PSG’s Alex, for reasons unexplained.
We agree that the Alex link is ridiculous. He is a decent player but, at 31, would surely not be on the Manchester United radar.
As for Mehdi Benatia the Moroccan has had a great season at the heart of the Roma defence and, at 26, represents a much more realistic target for David Moyes and Manchester United.

Pls allow De gea to be one of the best and to develop into a world class keeper. Look for a defender not a goalkeeper. The lad is good.
