With the future of Thomas Vermaelen in doubt beyond the end of the season, it has been reported that Arsenal have opened talks with Anderlecht over a deal for their central defender Cheikhou Kouyate.
The big lad has been linked to Arsenal for some time but this development suggests that a deal could be close.
Arsenal open talks with Anderlecht over Cheikhou Kouyate transfer
Arsenal have made contact with Belgian giants Anderlecht over a deal for defender Cheikhou Kouyate, his agent has revealed.
‘Arsenal have been tracking Cheikhou and have now made enquiries [to Anderlecht,’ said agent Saffet Balkan to Turkish-Football.com.
‘Galatasaray and CSKA also keep close tabs on him. Valencia made a bid in January, but Anderlecht rejected the offer.’
The big centre back, who stands at 6ft 4in, has slowly established himself as a regular in the Anderlecht side since he arrived at the club from Brussels in 2008. He’s play 135 times for his current club, scoring three goals.
He also made his debut for a strong Senegal national side in 2012 and has since gone on to represent his country on 5 occasions.
He’s basically an absolute unit with decent feet. He’s the sort of guy who’s chiseled perfectly for The Premier League and can defend equally well against pace or power. Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Arsenal fans – would you rather see Vermaelen stay at the club or invest in more young potential?
