Aston Villa remind us of Newcastle in as much as there is rarely a dull moment at the club. It may be agony to support a side who is on a constant roller coaster. But at least you can’t say it’s boring to follow Aston Villa.
This season has been slightly disappointing in terms of a levelling off of the trajectory. After beating the drop last season it looked as if Aston Villa’s young team was going to go from strength to strength – to learn their lessons from the previous campaign and go into the new one stronger and immeasurably more experienced.
But it hasn’t quite turned out like that. Much importance is put on the shoulders of Christian Benteke and when he doesn’t fire Aston Villa can look a little lame. Injury and form have prevented him from getting anywhere near the top of the scoring charts this season and Paul Lambert clearly feels that the goal scoring burden needs to be better shared. Grant Holt, Helenius and Kozak have come in over the last year. But the search for strikers seemingly continues.
News today suggests that Aston Villa are looking down the leagues for hidden gems. The Daily Star says:
ASTON VILLA are running the rule over non-league teen sensation Johan Ter Horst.
The striker, 18, plays seven steps below the Premier League with Ryman One South side Folkestone Invicta.
Villa have sent scouts to watch Ter Horst, who has scored 17 goals this season, and are mulling over making a bid.
7 other clubs are reportedly interested in the player and the manager of his current club has little faith in the idea of holding onto the player for long. Folkestone’s manager Neil Cugley said:
“He’s only just 18 years old – what a player. He’s a local lad and has come through our youth team.
“I want to keep him but I don’t think he’ll be here for much longer.”
Here is the full interview with the Folkestone manager.
