Spurs favourites for midfielder

Tottenham have been very quiet in the transfer market so far during January. Perhaps Tim Sherwood is more concerned with jelling all of the summer arrivals before he adds more players to the squad.

But one interesting Tottenham development over the last 24 hours pertains to a much sought after midfielder. Manchester United and Chelsea were reportedly leading the chase to sign Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin in January.

There was also talk of a swap deal involving Mirko Vucinic and Guarin between Juventus and Inter. So far no deals have been done but, according to Bet Victor, Tottenham are now favourites to sign the player in January.

The bookmaker have had Chelsea and Manchester United as favourites, at different times of the month, but Tottenham have recently come right in in the betting. Perhaps Bet Victor have some inside info on this one. Either way, if the high volume of hype has any weight, then this guy will be on the move somewhere in January.

Bet Victor now have Tottenham as 4/1 favourites to sign Guarin in January. The all-action 27-year-old Columbian has played 47 times for Columbia, scoring three goals. He has played the same number of games of his current club, Inter, scoring seven goals in that time.

Concerns about him not adapting to The Premier League may be offset by the fact that Guarin is a real journeyman. He has served with distinction in Portugal, France and Italy as well as for Boca Juniors in Argentina. The lad has certainly been around a bit.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Tottenham fans – do you need a midfield enforcer right now or should you be looking at other areas of the pitch.

No, we do not need another midfield enforcer, holding midfield player, defensive midfielder, breaker-up-of play player, sweeper or ‘bite yer legs’ battler, and so on. We have them in abundance!
What we NEED is another ‘creative player’ or ‘playmaker’ to take the pressure off Eriksen, plus one more forward to replace Defoe.
That’s it!! ..for the rest of the season anyhow.

Guarin is actually a very creative player has a good eye for a pass and distributes it well. Also pretty sure hes best in a deep playmaking role so if we could get guarin and rid of capoue it would probably result in a good deal 🙂 although i have to say i am a fan of capoue

Yes positively. If capoue goes and sandro is deemed breakable then yes.
We need someone on the pitch (rather than the knackered yard) that can aliviate dembele’s role at the back and allow him to cruise further forward.

This is yet another transfer window where the press get their kicks by inventing stories. Lets be honest we actually spent NOTHING in the summer in fact something like 3 mil in credit so unless we sell we will be unlikely to buy. Another frustrating season me thinks!

In my opinion this is just media speculation, the midfield is one area that doesnt need strengthening, also Tim has already intimated that he’s happy with the current squad and Defoe wont be replaced. Despite Baldini’s best efforts Levy still pulls the transfer strings, January is not the best time to expend your transfer budget unless of course you’re fighting relegation or if a fantistic player becomes available on the cheap. Our squad is shaped to compete in multiple competition hence the number of Midfield player, do we need Guarin? I think not, unless we trim the squad by 2 want-away players only then will Guerin’s purchase will make sense.
