Arsenal put 42.7m Euro package together for sensation – report

Is Arsene after the right sort of player?

We do hope Arsene Wenger is just a genius and he hasn’t actually gone mad. They do say that there is a fine line between the two.

The subject that induces our worry is Arsenal’s lack of activity in terms of signing a striker in the winter window. Surely the Arsenal manager is prioritising the signing of someone who can score goals in the eventuality that Olivier Giroud hurts himself?

Yet the papers have been awash over the last week with stories about Wenger wanting yet another attacking midfielder. There has been talk that Arsenal will mould the oft-reported Julian Draxler into the next RvP but, at 20 years of age, he certainly isn’t a deadly striker yet.

What Arsenal need is a fully formed front man who can go straight into the first team and provide proper competition for Giroud.

Yet the stories persist that Arsenal put a package of £35m (42.7m Euro) together – to possibly include the swapping out of Lucas Podolski – to try to entice Schalke to sell this month. The Mail says:

Arsenal’s attempt to lure Julian Draxler from Schalke is not going to happen this month despite a £35million package being dangled in front of the Germans.

Arsene Wenger has identified Draxler as the additional attacking option he needs for the second half of the season and evidently hopes an offer of £20m plus Lukas Podolski might be enough to secure a deal before the window shuts.

The report goes on to quote an official from Schalke who says that a deal most certainly isn’t going to happen in January:

‘It is nonsense to suggest we might consider selling him this winter. It will not happen.’

The time for Arsenal is now. Not in another three years. They need to grasp the nettle and take the title race all the way this season. Imagine what the impact that the signing of someone like Diego Costa could have in the second half of the season?
