Sunderland may still be sitting in The Premier League drop zone but manager Gus Poyet has really got them playing again. We think Poyet is an excellent young manager with the drive to succeed at Sunderland. There is a real determination about the team now and this has been reflected in their results.
Notably, they beat Everton away on Boxing Day and also took the scalps of Manchester United and Chelsea in The League Cup.
But there are obvious weaknesses in the squad and Sunderland will surely look to delve into the transfer market this January. Only Fulham, Stoke and Norwich have conceded more goals than Sunderland and Poyet may well look to address this during the winter window.
Bet Victor have got Sunderland at shortest odds to sign John Souttar in January. The 17 year old would surely be seen as a long term solution rather than a quick fix. But he’s been gaining lots of fans north of the border with his club Dundee United. He’s played 21 times for the senior side in 2013 and scored a goal for good measure.
Souttar has also played for Scotland at U17 and U19 levels and is tipped for great things. The fact that he’s getting a game for the seniors at 17 says it all.
Speaking about transfer speculation the youngster, who is also a reported target for Everton said:
He said: “It’s been easy to blank out all the stuff that has been said and written about me. I don’t notice any of that, I just concentrate on making sure I’m doing my job on the park.
“It’s easier too because it’s not just me who has had this stuff said or written. There are a few of us in the same position.
Let’s take a look at the limited footage available of the player right now. CLICK FOR SOUTTAR
