Arsenal’s starting XI come February?

tactics-board1

Will Arsenal strengthen substantially in January?

We are close to entering mini-silly season in the transfer market and with Premier League clubs now more minted than The Queen it would be rude not to spend.

Despite their two nil defeat to Napoli in the week Arsenal have been flying this season. Only Liverpool and Manchester City, in spates, have come anywhere close to the performance level of The Gunners. With Christmas just around the corner, Arsenal sit atop the league, five points clear the best of the rest.

But Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will want to strengthen his side again in the winter window in an attempt to maintain that gap through the spring. We believe that Arsenal need to lead from the front if they going to win the title this season.

Surprisingly to some Arsenal have persistently been linked with attacking midfielders this autumn. Despite having a midfield to die for rumours persist that they will go for another attacking midfielder in Jan. The name Ilkay Gundogan has been passed around like badly rolled joint and Arsenal have been strongly linked. We think that he would represent a dream signing for any Premier League club – but he’ll cost upwards of £30m.

A more obvious area that Arsenal need to strengthen is in attack. While many have suggested the club needs to sign cover for Olivier Giroud, we are very much of the opinion that they should be trying to sign someone better than the Frenchman. Giroud has had a great season but we remain doubtful as to whether he could change a game at the very top level. Arsenal have long been linked with Karim Benzema and he would make a fantastic, if unlikely signing, in the winter window.

So here’s what we think is the best case scenario starting XI for Arsenal come February. Let’s have your thoughts.

Szceszny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Wilshere, Gundogan, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Benzema

I don’t agree with Benzema. . . Costa and the Greek man from Lyon.
