Manchester United are clearly in need of midfield reinforcements if they’re going to get anywhere near challenging for the title by May.
But the worrying thing from some fans’ perspective is that a lot of the names being linked with Manchester United are defensive midfielders.
With 27.5m spent on Fellaini and Carrick and Phil Jones both more than capable of shielding the back four, common sense would surely suggest that it’s creative midfielders that Manchester United should be after. But what do we know?
The Mirror today reports that Manchester United have been watching a young sporting Lisbon midfielder closely for the last half-dozen games. 21 year old William Carvalho is apparently of great interest to David Moyes. The player recently made his debut for Portugal against Sweden. The Mirror says:
