Liverpool are motoring – especially at home where they are dispatching all comers like genuine title contenders. But the injury to Steven Gerrard will be sorely felt in a squad which can ill afford to lose a star.
While the first XI can go toe to toe with most English teams Liverpool need to add depth to that squad if they want to maintain a challenge come spring.
And that midfield area is where Liverpool probably need to add bodies most – Someone to create and use the possession won by Henderson and Lucas.
Speculation persists that Xabi Alonso will make a move at some point soon. He has proven a valuable asset to Real Madrid but he is yet to sign at new contract and, at 32, he may not like what is gbieng offered.
You could see him slotting back seamlessly into the Liverpool side and the fans would surely love to see him at Anfield again. He wouldn’t be a long term solution but he Alonso would perhaps provide higher quality service into Liverpool’s strikers and help them make that push for The Champions League and beyond.
Liverpool are favourites with SkyBet to sign the player in the winter window. At odds of 6/1 you certainly wouldn’t dismiss the idea of a reunion and we should know whether the player will sign a new contract at Real Madrid in the coming days.

You would think if Alonso really loved Liverpool as he says, he would see we need him badly and jump at the chance to help us out.

Since Alonso does’nt want to come to Liverpoolfc we should look to our academy and pick a Central mildfilder and its should be “Joao Teixeira”..Teixeira is a Fantastic player n a play maker he is dubbed the New “DECO”…Lfc fans should go n watch a video of him playing cos i think he is a Perfect backup n Replacement for Steven Gerrard

The more pressing question is…should Alonso come back to Liverpool, would Henderson give up the #14 shirt for him?
