14 goals in 31 games – that’s why Liverpool are linked with this star

Liverpool are surely going to look at their midfield during the winter window. From a ruthless perspective you would say that the team needs strengthening in all departments to become a force in Europe.

But the area which needs the most urgent attention is, in our opinion, the midfield. Serious thought will already have been given to replacing Steven Gerrard. But it’s impossible to find someone who has both the defensive and attacking qualities of the Liverpool captain.

What is the certain is that Liverpool need to more creativity in that area of the pitch before long. Reports today suggest that they are in a battle with Arsenal to sign the brilliant young attacking midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu.

The Turkish kid is just 19 and is signed to Bundesliga outfit Hamburg. But he’s been on fire during two loan spells Karlsruher, which really important to the attention of Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Arsenal. During his most recent spell there he has mustered a superb 14 goals in 31 games from the midfield.

His impressive performances have already earned him a cap in the Turkey national side and he has also played at every youth level for his nation, scoring freely along the way.

There could be a fierce battle for his signature as his agent has revealed that Arsenal will possibly make a bid next month. The Express quotes him as saying:

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have had Calhanoglu watched in recent weeks and the players agent, Bektas Demirtas, has now revealed he expects a bid from the Gunners in the near future.

Demirtas told Hamburger Morgenpost: “We know of Arsenal’s interest.

“I think they will make a concrete move in December or January.”

Already labelled the next Ozil the kid looks like he’s going to have a great future in the game. Let’s have a look at him in action.
