It is interesting to see how quickly the tide of public opinion can change in football. A year ago Arsene Wenger was depicted, in some quarters, as a man on the cusp of madness – trying the same thing year on year and expecting different results.
But the Arsenal coach stayed true to his beliefs and the team are now flying high at the top of The Premier League. December looks like the toughest month yet, in terms of fixtures, but Arsenal are showing no signs of weakness right now. The signing of Mesut Ozil seems to have been a catalyst for the whole club.
It has reminded the players that Arsenal is still one of the elite teams in Europe. Accordingly there is an entirely new belief about the place and they are playing superb, coherent and winning football – this Arsenal team is beautifully ruthless.
Reports today suggest that Arsenal may go in for a French player in the winter window. The Guardian says:
Arsenal sent Gilles Grimandi to scout Paris St-Germain’s teenaged midfielder Adrien Rabiot, already a target for Chelsea, at the weekend.
The 18-year-old Frenchman appeared 12 times for moneybags Paris St Germain in 2012 before being loaned out to Toulouse for the season. He has represented France at every youth international level and also had a stint at Manchester City back in 2008 as a junior.
Whether he is old or mature enough to have an impact on the first team at Arsenal right now is highly debatable. Instead, he looks like one for the future.
Let’s see the lad in action
