As the transfer hype intensifies most of the West Ham rumours still pertain to strikers. We are certain that Sam Allardyce will be looking to strengthen every department of his team in the winter window. But it does appear that the most obvious need is for more goalscorers.
With Carlton Cole seemingly unhappy at the club and none of the other understudies doing a great job, in Andy Carroll’s absence, West Ham need a proven goalscorer.
They have been linked with several names already in the last month. Big players like Jermaine Defoe and Diego Forlan have been mentioned.
Another story, which has surfaced today, suggests that West Ham might go in for France striker Andre Pierre Gignac in the winter window. Gignac, who currently plays for Marseille, has spent the vast majority of his career in France and scored goals whereever he has played. That’s 22 in 76 for Marseille, 34 in 98 for Toulouse and 11 in 51 for Lorient. He’s also turned out 14 times for France.
At 27 he is coming into the prime of his career and The Daily Mail says:
West Ham are considering a loan deal for Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.
The 27-year-old figured for the French side against Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday night but is ready to leave for a tilt at the English Premier League.
The report also suggests that the player has been of interest to other Premier League clubs in the past so West Ham may have competition in their attempts to sign him. But you would expect that with any top player.
Let’s see the lad in action. West Ham fans do you think this guy would be a good supplement to the squad in the short term?
