West Ham in for brilliant international striker – report

He offers the sort of power and aerial presence that would suit the West Ham system well

It’s clear that West Ham will be in the market for some extra firepower this winter. Maiga, Vaz Te and Cole have proved less than stellar understudies to the injured Andy Carroll.

Ravel Morrison and Kevin Nolan are the only other players that currently offer a genuine goal-threat in the West Ham side. So expect the speculation to intensify in the last few weeks before the winter window.

Portuguese daily A Bola has suggested that West Ham may look to Hugo Almeida for goals come January. The publication reports:

The Portuguese international Hugo Almeida of Besiktas, is the list of reinforcements from West Ham for the winter market.

According to the British press, the West Ham manager, Sam Allerdyce, aims to strengthen the attack on the reopening of the market and Hugo Almeida is one of the players has been observed.

The report goes on to state that the shortlist includes Felipe Caicedo, Emanuel Adebayor, Demba Ba, Jordan Rhodes and Jermain Defoe.

As for Almeida, he’s played at the top for years. He had a successful spell for Werder Bremen before moving to Besiktas in 2011 where he has scored a goal every two games, as top strikers should. He also has over half a century of caps for a strong Portugal side, scoring 17 goals in the process.

Almeida is still only 29 and offers the sort of power and aerial presence that would suit the current West Ham system pretty well. We think that he would be an excellent acquisition for Big Sam and The Hammers.

Let’s see the man in action. West Ham fans, do you reckon he’s be a good signing or would you rather another from the reported short-list?

He’s a great player and if we had the possibility to sign him, then i’d sign him.
In reality we need a clear out – C Cole, Maiga are not up to the challenge. We need 2 in, not just 1.
Almeida, Carroll and Defoe gives variety and quality. But how do we convince 2 quality strikers to join?
