Arsenal want this goal machine in January – report

Manchester United are unlikely to want to strengthen a direct rival especially with Arsenal doing so well

Arsenal ticked so many boxes that had, until now, been unchecked when they beat Borussia Dortmund away from home on Wednesday night.

Not too many people would have had their hard-earned on the away win, that’s for sure. Many a cynical onlooker would’ve expected Arsenal to fold in the face of such a juggernaut. So perhaps we are seeing a proper renaissance for this Arsenal side. They are now answering questions that they haven’t been able to for a long time.

Many believe that the cornerstone of this success has been the improved performance of the back line. Whilst this has undoubtedly been an important factor in Arsenal’s resurgence it’s their attacking play which has really caught the eye. They have a midfield to die for and Olivier Giroud really has been profiting from this excellent service. He has come on well this year.

But we at soccersweep have been banging on for ages about how Arsenal need to strengthen their forward options as soon as possible. If Giroud gets injured (the most commonly uttered four words in football right now) Arsenal could find themselves without paddle and up arse creek.

The Daily Mail today suggests that Arsenal will make a bid for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez in the winter window. Hernandez is a fan favourite at Manchester United and has always done himself proud when he’s been on the pitch. The problem for him is that he hasn’t been on the pitch so much over the last year. Since RvP came to Manchester United the Mexican has had limited game time.

The Daily Mail says

Arsenal’s scouting network has kicked into overdrive, with Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez emerging as a January target.

The Gunners have discussed a shock move for the Mexican, as fears grow over Olivier Giroud’s workload.

In truth we can’t really see this one happening. Whilst Hernandez could have a better chance of getting to the top of the pecking order at Arsenal he could just as easily end up playing second fiddle to the more rounded Olivier Giroud.

There is no doubt Arsenal fans would love him at the club as he is a wonderful impact player. But Manchester United are unlikely to want to strengthen a direct rival – especially with Arsenal doing so well.

So, we are pooh-poohing this suggestion, but let’s have a look at him in action all the same.
