We must be sounding like a broken record on this one already. But the fact remains that Arsenal need to add numbers to the striking department.
Arsene Wenger is a smart guy and this fact surely won’t be lost on him . Olivier Giroud has proved to be a very astute signing and has really settled down this season to become an excellent striker. But it’s not enough to have one recognised goalscorer in your squad.
Arsenal will surely look to strengthen in the winter window. As we know, it can be very difficult to find the right man in January, as lots of players are cup-tied and don’t want to leave their clubs mid-season. This is particularly true in a pre-World Cup season.
However, Wenger seems very keen on a Brazilian striker, who he has been talking about recently. The Daily Star today quotes the Arsenal manager as showing great admiration for Atletico Madrid’s centre forward Diego Costa.
The Daily Star quotes the Arsenal boss as saying:
“He had already grabbed my attention last year through his determination, his strength to move forward,” Wenger said.
“He also possesses technical quality and a cool head when carrying out his finishing touches.
“There is something animal in his determination, in his hunger. You can feel that he is a player who, before arriving at a very high level, has fed his thirst and his hunger.”
Atletico Madrid are flying high at home and in The Champions League and certainly won’t want to lose their star player in the winter window. But, if Costa continues on this trajectory and has a desire to leave, Atletico Madrid may find it impossible to hold onto him.
And if Arsenal really want Costa they may have to make an offer close to that which brought Ozil to the club.
Arsenal fans is Diego Costa the man to best profit from the service of Mesut Ozil up front? Or would you prefer Arsenal to make another bid for Luis Suarez in the winter?
