Arsenal

Two surprises on the Arsenal wanted list – report

After one big signing we would be foolish to think that Arsenal’s transfer policy has changed completely

After one big signing we would be foolish to think that Arsenal’s transfer policy has changed completely. After years of financial constraint Arsenal do seem to be bullish about their transfer kitty and you wouldn’t be agog if they bought another bobby dazzler of a player for £40m in January.

But, even the elite clubs in world football have to survey the mid-priced market, to supplement their stellar signings. Manchester City have recently purchased Martín Demichelis to add numbers at the back and Chelsea got a short-term bargain in Samuel Eto’o over the summer.

Arsenal too will continue to look around for bargains of all prices. Today we hear that they may be interested in bringing Brazilian Pato back to Europe after a stint in his home league with Corinthians.

We definitely see him as the type of player who would pique the interest of Mr.Wenger. He’s all about technique, balance and football intelligence – a balletic footballer.

That one aside Arsenal are reportedly keen on Japan playmaker Yoichiro Kakitani. I know! Another playmaker. Forget the Barcelona 4-6-0 formation. Arsenal are seemingly looking at a 0-10-0.

We say that The Week says that The Daily Star says:

THEY described him as a “goal-scoring starlet”, and according to the Daily Star 23-year-old Yoichiro Kakitani is being fought over by Arsenal and Inter Milan.

The Far East ace has been setting the J-League on fire this season, scoring 17 times for Cerezo Osaka and catching the attention of the two European powerhouses. The Star says its sources in Italy have told them Inter are “keeping tabs” on the midfield magician while Arsenal scouts are also known to have been prowling around Japan.

Japan seems to be making big strides in football with Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa chief among its new wave of world travellers. Kagawa seems to embody hat is good in the Japanese game – he’s got superb fitness, great technique and keeps the ball moving beautifully.

Let’s see Kakitani in action and you can form your own opinions about whether he would fit in at Arsenal.
