On fire Liverpool ace Daniel Sturridge has claimed that one of the reasons he is playing so well this season is down to the advice he has received from his ex-Chelsea team mate Didier Drogba.
Sturridge joined Liverpool on the 2nd January 2013 for a fee of around £12 million and since leaving Chelsea has found his greatest form to date. Having scored 10 goals so far this season it certainly seems as though Brendan Rodgers is getting the best out of him at Liverpool.
The Birmingham born striker believes that his form is not only down to management but also due to words of wisdom from former team-mate Drogba. Quoted in The Mirror, The Englishman said of Drogba’s advice:
“He said the strongest thing an individual can have is the mental strength.
“…..He told me, ‘It’s not about the tactical, it’s not about the technical, it’s not about the physical. If you believe in yourself, that will set you apart.'”
He stated that words of advice were also given to him from Steven Gerrard who is, of course, his captain for both club and country.
He said of the Anfield die hard:
“Stevie has helped me a lot in terms of mindset.
“He’s all about self belief; don’t go out there with the mentality of trying to do something. Just let it happen.”
Having struggled to find a suitable partner for Wayne Rooney for most of his international career, Sturridge finally seems to have stepped up to the plate and he currently appears nailed on for a place in the starting eleven come Brazil 2014.
