Lukas Podolski made a switch from Bundesliga side FC Koln last summer for a fee of around £11 million and had a decent, if not explosive, first season at the club. He played a big part in Arsenal’s campaign last season but he has failed to gain regular first team action this year due to a recurring hamstring problem.
Reports from El Mundo Deportivo, via by Talksport, claim that Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are after the German international.
The adaptable German has been deployed as a striker, winger and as an attacking midfielder during his time at Arsenal. However, since securing Mesut Ozil this summer, Arsenal now have huge competition for places in the attacking third of the pitch.
With Olivier Giroud currently firing on all cylinders and the likes of Jack Wiltshire, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Serge Gnabry, Theo Walcott all fighting for first team action, Wenger may be tempted to cash in.
Although there is great competition in midfield, if by any chance Giroud is to become unavailable due to injury or suspension, the only other senior striker Arsenal have is Nicklas Bendtner – not exactly an Arsenal legend despite his extended time at the club. So one would imagine the Arsenal boss would look elsewhere for a more suited substitute for Giroud before deciding on selling Podolski to either Dortmund or Atletico.
Arsenal fans, would you like to see Podolski remain at the club or should you cash in now?
