Noone knows for sure who Jose’s first Chelsea signing will be but most of the players rumoured to be interesting The Special One relate to the spine of the side. So we can perhaps envisage that the returning Chelsea boss may look to complete the signing of a centre-back, a striker or a central midfielder before long.
With so many attacking midfielders at his disposal it is perhaps no surprise that JM has been linked of late with a defensive midfielder. We think that Chelsea will play a 4-2-3-1 next season and this system will require 2 defensive-minded middle men to marshall the midfield while the Oscars, Matas and Hazards maraud forward with devastating abandon. In his last stint at the club he used Essien and Mikel for the task. They are both still Chelsea players, as is Ramires. But the latest rumour is that Chelsea will look to procure another young battler for that area of the park.
The Independent reports that JM has made 20 year old French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia a ‘key’ target as he looks to secure the long-term future of the club. The midfielder moved to Seville from France a year ago and has made waves in La Liga, becoming an increasingly integral part of the side as the season progressed.
A strong, imposing player who operates in front of the back four, Kondogbia fits the bill for Chelsea. This summer they have prioritised signing a centre-half – the French defender Eliaquim Mangala at Porto – as well as a striker and a holding midfielder.
I’d like to have a look at the lad in action. Wouldn’t you? Yes I think you probably would.
Chelsea fans, does Jose need another defensive midfielder or would the money be better spent elsewhere?
