Mourinho targets 2 international forwards for Chelsea – report

With the ink hardly dry on the 4 year contract that Jose Mourinho has signed, to once more take the reigns at Chelsea, the sports sections are going into overdrive about who The Special One will recruit this summer.

Many onlookers seem to think that Chelsea need strikers and we are inclined to agree. Most clubs would of course be happy with the current roster of Torres, Ba and the returning Lukaku, but Chelsea aren’t most clubs are they? The incoming manager will want to win everything going next season and, to do so, he needs someone or some two that will guarantee him the most important thing in footy – goals my friends, goals. And lots of them.

Mourinho made Didier Drogba into a world star at Chelsea and, in return The Ivorian left most oppositions defences in tatters. Mourinho may well look for another battering ram to finish off the amazing service likely to be provided by Mata, Hazard and Oscar in what could well shape up to be a 4-2-3-1. The Telegraph today speculates that Mourinho’s battering ram of choice this time around could be Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko. Dzeko has by no means been a failure at City – the 27 year old has 30 goals in 76 games for City – but he never seemed central by Roberto Mancini’s plans. Mourinho would give Dzeko the sort of confidence he requires to be a 30-40 goal man for Chelsea. So we could definitely see that one coming to fruition.

The second reported target is perhaps a little more surprising. Stevan Jovetic hasn’t been a prolific goal scorer but has amassed an army of admirers, with Arsenal and Manchester United, supposedly among his suitors. The Montenegro international, 23, has 34 goals in 115 appearances for Fiorentina and plays more as a second striker. With the aforementioned bevvy of attacking midfielders at his disposal Mourinho isn’t exactly desperate for this type of player. But, with time for improvement, Jovetic already offers real guile and invention behind the main striker.

The Telegraph says:

‘Dzeko would fit the mould of the kind of powerful, tall striker that Mourinho favours while Jovetic offers versatility, being able to also play behind the main forward. Both are keen to leave their present clubs and there have been suggestions that Dzeko could be involved in a cash-plus-player deal for City to sign Edinson Cavani from Napoli.’

We shall keep you updated with any developments. Meantime, tell us what you think about these prospective signings.

dont need these players at all – rather find a midfield enforcer and another centre half – Lukaku can do the same job Dzeko would do while Hazard, Oscar and Mata can also score and are all far better players than Jovetic
