Mourinho target says Chelsea is a ‘great club’

I think that all of us footy fans are now aware that it’s silly season. The window doesn’t even officially open until July 1st but noone seems to care about that tiny detail. We’re too busy frothing at the mouth and taking various pills to calm us down in anticipation of who our clubs will sign this summer.

The latest player, in a long line, to be linked with Chelsea is French U21 International centre-back Eliaquim Mangala. The Porto defender is only 22 bless him but he’s already reported to be valued by his club at £30m. By the way, with all the selling that Porto do, shouldn’t they be the richest club in the world by now? And instead of buying their players for £30m, has noone thought about poaching their sensational scout?

Anyhoo, I say The Mail says that The Sun says that Mangala says he’s flattered by the link.

‘It’s flattering because Chelsea are a great club and Mourinho is a great coach.
‘I intended to stay in Porto but you never know what will happen in football, especially when big clubs are involved.
‘At Porto I play every week and I am involved in the title fight and the Champions League. And that is important to me.’

If you believe everything that you read then Mangala has a £30m buyout clause in his contract – that’s 35,099,193.31 EUROs in Portuguese money – a very odd figure to have in a contract don’t you think? Perish the thought that this figure could, in fact, be made up! Perish it damn you!

Chelsea may indeed look to reinforce their defence this summer however. With David Luis rumoured to be interesting Barcelona and John Terry needing a good oiling, a young and lithe defensive dominator could be on the cards. We will know soon enough. After all, we only have another 93 days until the summer transfer window ‘slams shut’.
