Chelsea’s search for another striker is set to be long and exhaustive. A carousel of names, including Falcao, Cavani, Hulk and many others continue to come to the fore. Another who has been linked of late is Germany striker Mario Gomez. He may not be the most unconventional or exciting striker on Chelsea’s supposed shopping list, but he certainly knows where the onion bag. Whether his current club Bayern München would be prepared to let such a prolific player go is arguable.
What is a certain is that, if he did go to Chelsea, he would cost a pretty penny. On Tuesday night, he kept Bayern’s dreams of an improbable treble alive by scoring a hat-trick in just six minutes, to put the game beyond Wolfsburg in the domestic cup semi final. Having already won the league with games to spare, München now find themselves in the final of the cup and the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they face the might of Barcelona – anything is possible.
Chelsea could certainly do worse than to sign this powerhouse of a striker – check out his six minute hat-trick here in true Low Def format. And Chelsea fans, does Gomez boil your potatoes?
