Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney’s future seems up in the air right now. Reports about where he will play next season are fluctuating wildly by the hour. EX-PSG advisor Michel Moulin is quoted on French TV as saying:

‘I announce to you from trusted sources: Rooney to PSG is done’…..’He will be at PSG next season.’

But last night The Daily Mail, who somehow manage to remain just on the right side of scandal, did an about turn on an earlier story which suggested that he was ready to leave Manchester United after over 8 glorious years at the club.

‘Wayne Rooney wants to open talks about a new Manchester United contract this summer after telling friends he has no desire to leave Old Trafford for Paris St Germain. The United striker is baffled by suggestions from a former PSG advisor in France yesterday that a deal with the wealthy Paris club was already in place.Instead, it is understood that the 27-year-old wants to sit down with United at the end of this season and discuss an extension to a contract that will by then have two years to run.’

So is Wayne off or is this latest tale just a Moulin Rouse?.

This is what the most trusted source you can read, namely soccersweep, thinks. All is not quite right with Wayne Rooney and Manchester United at the moment and United fans should definitely be worried. You may have noticed that just as RvP was embracing the boss at the weekend, Rooney was also running toward the touchline. Although himself celebrating enthusiastically, the reception that Fergie gave Rooney was very cold by comparison.

On the flip side, Rooney has started doing interviews again of late and is showing no obvious sign of disdain for the club or manager. It’s a really strange one. We still can’t imagine that Manchester United letting Rooney go would be a purely footballing decision. As witnessed at the weekend, Rooney could be Manchester United’s best midfielder if the club decided that he should be moved deeper. Rooney is still the best footballer at Manchester United by some distance.

But, until we see categoric statements from the club and the player, the speculation frenzy will continue.
