Chelsea

New striker target – reports

Chelsea’s search for another top striker has been pasted all over the papers for months. Demba Ba has improved since joining Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku will return from West Brom as Didier Drogba’s heir apparent. But noone from Chelsea would be surprised if the hapless Fernando Torres returned to Spain.

It seems certain then that Chelsea will spend a large chunk of cash on a big name striker. Atletico Madrid’s white hot striker Radamel Falcao’s name is being passed around the papers like a badly rolled joint at the moment and could still end up wearing blue next season. Edinson Cavani’s name is never far from the Chelsea rumour mill – he would also fit the bill. But another rumour that has surfaced again in the last 24 hours suggests that Chelsea may go for Germany striker Mario Gomez.

Earlier Rumours

German news outlet Bild reported last month that Chelsea were in for the unhappy Bayern striker and The Daily Mail is suggesting today that he could be the new priority for The Blues. The Mail quotes Gomez’ agent as saying that ‘Mario is not happy about his situation.’

Magic

The 27 year old striker has had an eventful and not always successful career at international level. But at Bayern Munich he has been an absolute goal machine, scoring 72 in 110 games since he joined the club in 2009. He hasn’t always hit the heights for Germany but still has a highly creditable 25 in 58 for his country.

Gomez is a big lad with a deft touch. He’s tailor made for the The Premier League and, despite Chelsea’s newfound penchant for little geniuses, Gomez may well be on Chelsea hit list.
