According to reports, Bayer Leverkusen winger Andre Schurrle will finally move to Chelsea this summer for a fee of around £13m, in a deal which will see Kevin de Bruyne go the other way. De Bruyne, who is currnetly on loan at Werder Bremen, has failed to make an impression on the Chelsea coaching staff.
A deal for Schurrle has been mooted over the last two transfer windows and it seems that Chelsea will now make it 3rd time lucky. When the player was initially interesting Chelsea, his price tag was rumoured to be much higher but, with his contract a further year closer to ending, Chelsea will pick the winger up for a comparatively low price.
At 22 he has already played for the German national side 22 times, scoring a hugely impressive 7 goals in that time. As a youth international he scored at a rate of a goal a game. At senior club level he has scored 40 goals in 142 appearances for Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen. This is a wide man who knows where the goal is.
He’s a hard working player with a great engine but also the fleet of foot that will wow the fans. He looks like a player not only for the future, but one who will compete for a first 11 place at Chelsea straight away, if he does make the reported switch.
