Wilfried Watch – Zaha vs Leeds

When a young player agrees a deal with a bigger club mid-season  he can easily take his eye off the ball. Wilfried Zaha will be dreaming of Manchester United already but his form for Crystal Palace hasn’t dipped discernably since he agreed the switch to Old Trafford.

He was prominent again in the game against Leeds at the weekend, getting on the ball time and again to threaten the opposition penalty box. It’s impossible to know how Championship players will cope with the huge jump to The Premier League but Jamie Redknapp thinks that he will have no problems. He told The Daily Mail

“I can’t wait for him to get to Manchester United, where he will thrive,”
“He is maintaining his form for Palace and dazzled Leeds with his pace and direct runs. I know of scouts who watched Zaha and recommended against signing him because he uses too many tricks.”

If Manchester United are going to continue with the 4-4-2 formation in coming seasons they may well need reinforcements. Valencia, Young and Nani haven’t really done the business this season and at least one could leave at the end of this campaign. Zaha will hope to make one of the wing berths his own over the coming years. Whether he can make an immediate impact remains to be seen but he arguably has the qualities to succeed in The Premier League. He’s quick, strong and obviously has a trick in him. It will be very interesting to see how he gets on next year.

He shit his pants playing in front of 3500 Leeds fans and switched wings after 15mins cos he was getting some grief for being a Scummer, before given the middle finger (no class, he’ll get on with Fergie then!) and missed an absolute sitter in the second half to put Palace 2 up.
