If Sir Fergie does make another signing in the winter window then most believe it will be that megalith of a midfielder, Victor Wanyama.
Wanyama has had a super season with Celtic and, at just 21 years of age, he represents a great investment for Manchester United, or anyone else who wants to spend the money.
The president of the Kenyan FA has stoked the transfer fires by stating earlier that Wanyama will leave Celtic soon: “Wanyama will soon be joining one of the big two clubs in the world. It is an exciting moment for us, which means that Kenya is a powerhouse in football.”
Of course, Celtic are a huge club and a club that remains in The Champions League. It would require a massive offer to prize the jewel in Celtic’s crown away at this vital stage of the season. So an immediate move may be difficult but the reality is that, if Wanyama’s performance trajectory continues on this arc, he could well eventually leave.
But, if Fergie really wants him at Manchester United then perhaps now is the time to show his hand. Conjecture aside, what is easy to understand is why clubs like Manchester United admire the player. Even at his tender age, he is composure personified.
