Revolving doors at Liverpool

Speculation is rife that Liverpool will be busy during the January transfer window.  The club are in dire need of supplements to their forward line, having let Andy Carroll leave in the summer without replacing him.  With limited funds at Brendan Rogers’s disposal, it appears that new arrivals will need to be funded by the proceeds of certain departures.  Let’s take a look at the players rumoured to be coming and going at Anfield next month.

OUT?

Jordan Henderson – The midfielder has not impressed at Anfield since arriving from Sunderland last year for £16m and it would appear that his days at the club are numbered.  Brendan Rogers has used the player sparingly this season and may well be tempted to sell him to raise funds should a suitable party be found.  CaughtOffside are claiming that Fulham are interested in purchasing the player and with the prospect of more first team opportunities in West London, a move could be on the cards next month.

Stewart Downing – Liverpool will have to take a significant loss on a player that cost £20m from Aston Villa, but with Downing having not scored a goal in over 40 appearances for the club, Rogers may well be keen to offload him as quickly as possible.  Despite the insipid performances that have marred Downing’s Liverpool career, it has been rumoured that a number of clubs are interested in his services, including an unlikely transfer to Arsenal, claim a number of media outlets including thisisanfield.com.

Joe Cole – It appears that the former England international midfielder has no future at Liverpool and may well depart in the January transfer window.  Brendan Rogers has never placed much faith in Cole and with QPR manager Harry Redknapp, who previously managed the player at West Ham said to be a fan, Cole could be swapping Anfield for Loftus Road next month, this according to The BBC.

IN?

Tom Ince – The England U21 international and son of former star Paul Ince was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Liverpool last season and sold to Blackpool.  However The Mirror and other news outlets are claiming that Rodgers is apparently keen to bring the player back to Anfield at a cost of £5m.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Schalke will be desperate to find a buyer for the proven goal scorer next month.  A host of clubs have been linked with the Holland international, but it has been implied throughout the media, notably in The Guardian, that Liverpool are determined to sign a player who would be an ideal addition to their front line.

Daniel Sturridge –
The Chelsea forward has had a torrid season to date, having struggled for form and fitness.  However Rodgers is known to be keen to recruit technically proficient and mobile players and Sturridge certainly fits this mould.  Rumours abound that the player will be moving next month and The Examiner claims that a deal could be reached for a fee of £12m.

As ive said before , and i’ll say it again, Liverpool are a cancer of a club. They bring in good talent and then leave it to die and fizzle out, this is because they never use the players to their full ability, they either play out of position or just rot on the bench. At http://www.talkoftheterrace.net we have spoken about this before, and all have agreed this is why Liverpool have gone backwards rather than forwards, and another reason why their never win anything again in a hurry, well of any importance anyway, not the League Cup. They wont sign any of the above players mentioned, they dont have the money to do so, and even if they did sell the players mentioned above it would not raise enough to buy anybody of any interest anyway..
