The transfer window is now only a few weeks away and the rumour mill is going into full swing but, with the notable exceptions of Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic, Manchester United aren’t known for spending big in the winter.
Sneijder and Taarabt
Rumours still abound, however, that Fergie will go for another midfielder in January – with Adel Taarabt and Wesley Sneijder chief amongst his targets. Taarabt is known to want Champions League football sooner rather than later and Sneijder’s contract problems at Inter have been well documented.
Christian Benteke
But soccersweep’s sources in the North West believe that Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke is a longer term target for Manchester United. No bid is expected in January but few could fail to be impressed with the all round game of the striker and, at 22, he represents an investment that will mature over time.
Strong as an ox and as zippy as an urban fox that has just eaten some hastily discarded alleyway chang, the technically adroit Belgian front man already appears to have the lot. Despite a modest return of 3 goals in Paul Lambert’s young side he’s made an excellent all round contribution to the team this season.
Bromance
With Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney in their late 20s Manchester United will eventually look to bring the average age of their strike force down and they could do much worse than Christian Benteke. Whether he would want to leave a new and exciting project at Aston Villa to fight for a place with Wazza and RVP is another matter.

Seriously Benteke isn’t going no where, you can offer us 30m and we will kindly tell you to F OFF, Villa needed to get the wage bill down which we are doing and we are continuing to do, but we will not be selling any of our starlets.
Villa was the biggest club in the world 100 years ago, we were the first super club and we will rise again with the new talent we have, we will not become anyone’s feeder club.
Benteke to be the next Drogba !!

Pure speculation at best, we all know these rumours come out this time of year, January will be a busy window, but we wont be seeing Benteke going to United, not unless they have a spare £50m anyway..
