Manchester United could pull off massive double transfer

Some of the more shamelessly speculatory rags are today suggesting that Manchester United are now in pole position to sign wantaway Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie. The Mirror, never short of a tenuous link, has reported that:

‘Fergie is understood to have told footballing friends he believes Van Persie will be moving to Old Trafford’

We still think that Van Persie will go to Manchester City, a club who would sign a 70 year old if he’d scored 20 league goals the previous season. Manchester United, on the other hand, seem to have abided by a strict policy of signing youngsters, especially since the failed Berbatov experiment.

But maybe the boss is still prepared to make exceptions for exceptional players and there is no doubt that he likes Van Persie. If Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is to be believed, this will be Fergie’s last season as manager of the club, so perhaps the Scot is treating himself to a few parting gifts. Gifts which he and the fans can enjoy now rather than in three or four years time.

Meanwhile, everyone thought that Luka Modric was Real Madrid bound and that may well still be the case. But Tottenham manager AVB has said today that any club matching their valuation of the player has a chance to sign him. He is quoted in The Daily Mail as saying:

‘There has been continuous interest (in Modric) from three different clubs. But it’s important for Tottenham to hold on to their rights.

‘His situation will continue as it is until the price is right. Luka is an intelligent person and understands the club have to defend his value, their values, rights and interests.

‘The offer has not met what the chairman wants. If that is met there won’t be any problems.’

Until now, most thought that Daniel Levy would only sell Modric abroad but these latest quotes possibly allude to a softening of stance. So United may well still have a chance if they really do want Modric.

We should get some serious developments either way in the next few days.

To be honest I can’t say I’m to bothered about either. I think both are over priced. Van persie had one good season for Arsenal and now he’s suddenly worth 30mil at 28, give me a break, one more injury and his career could fizzle out like Owens, and Modric, people are talking about what, 35-40mil? for that I would expect a bigger goal and assist return. You can talk about his influence on games from further back in midfield but there are younger, cheaper options out there can play that role and get more goals and assists.

If united brought in Erikson/Moutinho and a left back, possibly Baines then i would be happy with that squad for next season, injuries permitting.

united should move heaven and earth to buy erikson, 18 year old dutch left back, for same money as lucas, and lobendoski from dortmund, all will be big stars and sell back value can only go up, rvp and modric to old to spend that type of money

I prefer manu to sign Lawandoski than RVP or Modric cos he is young and full of talent his combination with Rooney and Kagawa ll be tremendous. So sir Alex should go for Lawandoski who is more cheaper and has Economic value

If fergie must sign van persie! Maybe its to give him trophy b4 he retires cos age is nt on his side anymore, moreover he is a one leg striker which makes lawandoski is beta becos he is younger and has more years ahead of him compared to van persie

    Jul 19, 2012 at 6:37 pm

Hmmmm, all i really love to see the two guys vanpersie and luka…van is very sharp and fast infront of the post or outside which manutd lack including is ability to play long range free kick…and luka will add creativity to that mildfld this are the things we seriously lack previous season look at the poor game we played against bilbao I feel like breaking my tv.

Nathaniel Clyne, Lucas Moura and may be one of Huntelar or Lewandowski. That should be game over for the Mancinis and the rest.. Also, please clean out the unwanted – Anderson, Berbatov should be sold for whatever we get…

I see manutd future bright with land baines and lucas, united have young stirker better than RVP so sir should go for this.

Don’t want Modric. He’s not worth even a fraction of what deluded Spurs fans are quoting for him so get over yourselves, Spurs. I would like us to sign Tiote. Not really arsed about RVP either. We have 3 top strikers. Buy somebody young and less of a drain on the wage bill, Fergie. Just cos he had a great season for Arsenal doesn’t necessarily mean he would slot a bagful away for us

Experince is good but I think we need young players full of energy & experince. Players like; Bains, Erikson & Moutinho who have been tested at higher level. Age again is on there side. With these aditn, we wrestle the title back 4rm our noisy neighbours. Up United

plz sir get us modric and lewandowski forget abt baines.he is 27 and evra is 31 there is no much defference, we have a strong left back wich can be used to substute evra in som matchs.robie brady did wel against Amazulu so he is a good left back. all this speculations we don’t need it, look at how chelsea is doing their own they wil price today tomorow they wil bring him.our trophy is the major thing ooo

I have some very sound advice for the Glazer family, ifyou want to play with the big boys of sport
then sell your tidlywink American football team and put the money into the biggest sports franchise in the World, do not underestimate the power of the British football supporter.

  23. Emeraldoyle

    Jul 19, 2012 at 10:29 pm

I think dat utd should sell berba. And get ur robert lewandowski and christain eriksson and full left back leigthon baines. Coz the combination wit kagawa, rooney, powell will be tramedious. So pls if we really wana retain our tittle bck 4rm city we hav to do does signing.

I really don’t know what’s going on in the transfer market. It seems that Man Utd are a bit reluctent when signing quality players. Transfer budget is an issue but we need to sometimes go a bit over the line to get the deel done. Sometimes we take too many chances and the super powers over shadows us. I’m a diehard Man Utd fan, I beleive in winning, but I do accept losing farely not by official errors or favours. Man Utd should go for Lucas Moura. They are so close and should not backout. So go for it Fergie.

    Jul 20, 2012 at 4:31 am

for me all is well but i prefer lukas moura and lawandoski than luka modric and van persie because van persie is using one leg like saha when he was in man u he normally be injured everytime when he was in man u and that is how ven persie will be be if he get to man u and modric doe’s one to come to man u because if he really like man u even if his money doe’s complet it will add his own money with it,so i prefer lukas moura and lawandoski than van persie and modric.

    Jul 20, 2012 at 9:55 am

have a funny feeling that Chelsea will step in for modric , and city will go for van persie. But if they leave it late their clubs will make them stay! as there will not be time to get replacements ?

    Jul 20, 2012 at 10:17 am

we need lucas moura he rily his a brilliant boy with skill accurate pass and a gud short. we dont need strikers all we need are players who can creat balls for our current strikers.

    Hi guys,
For me, i wd like to see Robert Lew instead of the aging RVP in OT with the likes of Lucas, Mouthino and baines. Robert will link well with Rooney and his former team mateShinji. With only these stars i hope united will shut the mouths of their noisy neibours.

neymar is the only player i want to see saf bring to united

  33. mohamed

    Jul 23, 2012 at 9:44 pm

i think we should forget about Modric he has already shown us that he is not interested with our united by showing that he wants to move to Madrid so let him be and so instead sir Alex should move for Lucas the young Brazilian he is only 19 he’s got the speed skills i think he could be a very big help to united and I don’t think the club needs a sticker we are not good at the midfield so i think sir alex should look for the likes of tiote, De Rossie, or bastian so that we strengthen our midfield then we can think of adding a stricker in january transfer window
