We love a straight talker and Brendan Rodgers is already earning points for his PR skills. He has today stoked the fires of transfer speculation by saying that he expects to make one or two big signings in the next couple of weeks. More specifically, he hopes to finalise the signing of an exciting player this week.
He is quoted in The Independent today as saying:
“There have been a whole raft of players being linked and only a few are real targets for us.”
“The reality is we have only made three or four enquiries about players and hopefully can close out one deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club, one the supporters will absolutely love.”
Managers generally tend to keep their cards close to their chest and Rodgers wouldn’t have made such a bold statement if he wasn’t pretty confident of getting a top player in in the next few days – he wouldn’t want to get egg all over his face this early in his Liverpool career by making loose and overly optimistic comments.
We at soccersweep think that the major signing could be Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic but it’s anyone’s guess at the moment and, whoever is about to arrive, it seems like the fans’ wait for new blood is almost over. Rodger’s sentiment that the fans will ‘absolutely love’ the signing must leave Liverpool supporters up and down the country salivating….
