With continued uncertainty over the future of Nani, there may well be room for another wide player at Old Trafford and Porto’s James Rodriguez is being linked, not for the first time, with a £20m move to Manchester United in sections of the press this morning.
Nani gave a definitive performance against Holland on Sunday which showed typical glimpses of brilliance but also included a now customary smattering of confused and frustrating play.
At 25 some are beginning to wonder whether Nani will ever completely iron out the lapses and become the top player that everyone wants to see. He undoubtedly has more natural talent than anyone else at Manchester United but he still hasn’t reached a point of complete maturity and still cedes possession too cheaply and frequently.
James Rodriguez is yet another from the Porto production line of dazzling wide players. The 20 year old, left footed Colombian has the pace of Nani but seems to prefer to keep his play more simple, direct and functional. He scored an impressive 13 goals from 20 games last season and Sir Alex may of course be fortunate enough to have both players in his squad next season.
