Liverpool bid for hitman?

A rather strange story is doing the rounds about Liverpool attempting to sign Daniel Sturridge for £15m from Chelsea. Where these rumours start, noone can be entirely sure. I heard a rumour recently that Lionel Richie did a tour of Turkey and decided to adapt one of his songs for his local audience. Thus he sang

‘Halal! Is it meat your looking for?’

Do I believe this rumour? No, and nor do I believe that Sturridge is going to Liverpool. He is young and has some potential but whether the new Liverpool boss would be ready to part with a big chunk of his summer budget for a player like Sturridge is highly debatable.

When he came into my consciousness, at Manchester City, he really did look like a gem. You wouldn’t say his career has tailed off since then. Far from it. He’s getting a game at Chelsea for god’s sake. But he’s not proven yet and therefore represents a big gamble.  I feel that he needs to develop his game a lot to be considered a regular for club or country. He has decent feet, good pace and can play in different positions and formations but he still plays too much with his head down. Also, I imagine that a manager like Brendan Rodgers will be looking for technically brilliant additions, in keeping with the style that he likes his teams to play in. For all his qualities, I’m not sure that Sturridge is necessarily a pass master or a player with a velvet touch. Yet.

In time he could well be a worthy addition to Liverpool but would you really pay 15 million for him now?

Chelsea should never allow him go,rather he should play at his preferred, central forward, position as a back up for Torres. But, if I were the Chelsea manager, I would have convinced him to play at the back of the main striker and educate him how to pass and shoot ,though we have Hazard,as he is a highly talented man of the club. Let’s keep him for,at least, two seasons and we will have one of the best players of the world, for sure!

Want someone really proven… Yilmaz, De Jong, van Wolfeswinkel, Cavani. They’ve all been regulars for top european teams and are all top scorers. Splash out on this, we created enough chances with the dross we have before the tika taka stuff. These guys can put the ball in the net. Spend the budget on one amazing striker and a top winger. We already have the ‘keeper, defence and strong midfield.

Is nt sound well to allow young STARidge to leave, he is a talented player. He can run and dribb in any big game, he is a future player only he is selfish when it comes to laying passes.
Consequently, we may regret of letting him go in the future. Though we have Hazard but a time would definitely come that we would need his service. Ktbffh

Don’t appreciate your sarcasm at the end of the article, and you come off defensively already there because you know people will take a piss on your subjective opinions. Sturridge is class and any team would be lucky to get him Gamble you say? Give me a fucking break… Whether or not he fits Rodgers style of play and philosophy remains to be seen, if BR wants him then I guess he does. But for the love of God, Sturridge a gamble for £15m lmfao

Meh, he’s selfish in the box, and if he is getting 30+ a season, then fair doos, but I’m more inclined to think that he would want to go back to Citeh, rather than come to us. So alls well that ends well.

When you see players with the potential of Cleverly, Sturridge, Adan Johnson, Lennon – being wasted when at clubs like City, Utd and Chelsea -it begs the question would it not be better for the English National team if these technicaly gifted players are with great clubs, but clubs who will give them game time. We all know Englands limitations at tis moment in time – platers with the gift of holding and passing. This is why – most top teams have their midfielders who are either foreign or golden Oldies – I mena look at Englands pick Lampard, Gerrard,Parker – with Crrick and Scholes possibles – no one else rally comes to mind except maybe Wiltshere.. Why is it that the EPL cannot offer the national team at least 6 gifted and technically complete midfielders. Its because the hunger for immediate success means that top clubs engage foreign stars.

Great comment. I’m in total agreement 100% game time is crucial for young native talent and for the top clubs to be willing to let them move on for the sake of their careers. I think in football terms eveyone wins out, imagine players like these adding to Martinez revolution at Wigan or strengthening teams at clubs like Villa, Norwich, Everton etc, would most def make the EPL more competitive and benefit the players and national team also

Game time is a key to growth for young players. The interest of liverpool fc towards local players gives me the believe sturidge can be a huge success. He is selfish but decisive.
